چکیده
Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis) is a filarial nematode which resides in the pulmonary arteries and right ventricle of heart in dogs. Mosquitoes under several genera including Culex, Aedes, and Anopheles are the competent vectors of the parasite. Dogs with heavy infection suffer from cardiorespiratory disturbances, resulting in multiple organ dysfunctions. In India, the parasite has been sporadically reported in dogs and wild captive carnivores from the north and northeastern region[1-3]. A case of human dirofilariosis was also reported from Mumbai in Central India[4]. Despite the strong belief that the parasite is confined to India’s northeastern region[2,5], the epidemiological situation here is far from clear. Reports available so far on the prevalence of D. immitis in dogs from this region are mainly based on postmortem study in non-descript street dogs[2,3]. The present study was undertaken to analyze the risk factors of PEER REVIEW ABSTRACT

Prevalence and Molecular Epidemiological Data on Dirofilaria immitis in Dogs from Northeastern States of India
The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis in stray, pet, and working dogs (n = 413, 266, and 103, resp.) from Guwahati (Assam) and Aizawl (Mizoram), areas located in two Northeastern States of India. Diagnostic methods applied were microscopy (wet film and Knott's concentration technique), immunological test (Ag ELISA by SNAP 4Dx ELISA kit), and molecul...
متن کاملA study on Dirofilaria immitis in healthy urban dogs from Ahvaz, Iran
Heartworm infection is one of the most important parasitic diseases in dogs and an increasing number of cases are reported each year by necropsy in Ahvaz. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitisinfection and to investigate the risk factors related to heartworm disease in urban dogs in this area. Blood samples were collected from 100 dogs from Feb 2007 to Feb ...

متن کاملAge and sex distribution of Dirofilaria immitis among dogs in Meshkin-Shahr, northwest Iran and molecular analysis of the isolates based on COX1 gene
Dirofilaria immitis is an important filarial nematode in dogs. In this study, age and sex distribution of this zoonotic nematode among dogs were investigated in northwest of Iran in Meshkin-Shahr city. Molecular characteristics of the isolates, based on cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COX1) gene were compared to the isolates from other areas of the world.Blood samples were collected from...
